Getting The Public Invested In Science

Who we are

FundScience is an online charitable organization, which aims to create an open platform for funding the research of promising young scientists. Its mission is to generate start-up funding for pilot projects while raising public awareness of basic research.

Who sponsors the grant?

A FundScience grant is up to $50,000 for one year for a project of your choosing. We also have starter grant packages starting at 5,000 CPU cycles donated by the Pittsburgh Super Computing Center. Grants are sponsored by FundScience, corporate sponsors and the general public. Each sponsored project will feature a dedicated webpage with an option for visitors to donate to the project. We will market all projects as well as help and encourage you to market the project yourself. The collected funds will be distributed through the affiliated university directly for the use of the project. In return we ask that you update the community on your progress and successes.

How will applications be evaluated?

All applications will go through scientific vetting. Each project will be reviewed by three independent reviewers. Based on their recommendations FundScience will select projects to be displayed on the FundScience website. Reviews will be made available to you along with any comments our staff made regardless of whether you qualified for a grant. Each project will be assessed on the applicant.s ability to explain their research in a clear and concise manner and scientific soundness and feasibility in the chosen timeframe. We will also evaluate whether the student has strong mentors and advisors to guide them.
